Carole Anne (Cook) Hammond , affectionately called “Annie” by close friends and family, peacefully departed this life surrounded by family and friends’ early morning on Sunday, May 15, 2022.
Carole was born on February 3, 1972, in Creve Coeur, Missouri, to the late Henry O. Keaton and Bobbie Ann Cook. She was a loving and devoted wife to Louis Weldon Hammond, II. Carole was a faithful, active member of St. Peter Primitive Baptist Church in Alcoa, Tennessee. She was involved in numerous activities with the church throughout the years. She was a member of the youth choir, youth and adult usher board, chairperson of the 100 Year Anniversary committee, and served as the assistant financial secretary until her failing health.
Carole is a graduate of the ‘1990 Class of Alcoa High School where she ranked thirteenth in her class. She participated in numerous school clubs as well as held office, to include Secretary of Designing Women, member of Future Teachers of America (FTA), Student Council, New Directions, Student Assistant Team, Library Assistants, and the Science Engineering Communications Mathematics Enrichment (SECME) organization. Carole lettered in tennis and received a partial collegiate scholarship for tennis, as she was the Drug Emporium Female Athlete of the Year 1989-1990. She also received an academic scholarship to college. Carole was the Senior Class representative of the Basketball Homecoming Court.
Carole continued her education at Tennessee Technical University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. She was an Alpha Sweetheart while attending Tennessee Tech. Carole began her Industrial Engineering career at Calsonic Yorozu Plasti-Line, Inc. in Knoxville, TN, and continued her professional work with Volvo Trucks, North America in Radford, VA. She also worked with Radford Parks and Recreation in Radford, VA, as an administrative assistant and tennis instructor. Carole moved back to the Alcoa area and started a career with the State of Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury Division of Property Assessments as a Master of Appraisal and Appraisal Analyst II as well as a certified Impact System Implementation Trainer. She remained a faithful worker and beloved co-worker for 20 years.
Carole is a charter member of the Knoxville Urban League - Young Professionals. She was a strong supporter of civil rights and women’s rights and was an active participant and volunteer with the Obama re-election campaign in 2012. Carole is and will always be a Kappa Silhouette.
Carole loved traveling with her husband, enjoyed playing and watching tennis, and was an avid supporter of women's sports. She was the family and church photographer. Carole was a devoted wife, stepmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Carole is preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence, and Lillian Goins; father, Henry O. Keaton; sister, Dora Yvette Cook-Badgett; and devoted aunt Bernice Crawford.
Carole is survived by her loving husband, Louis Weldon Hammond, II of Knoxville, TN; step-daughter, Erianna Hammond of Chesapeake, VA; mother, Bobbie Ann Cook of Alcoa, TN; mother and father-in-law, L. Weldon (Loretta) Hammond of Columbia, SC; sisters, Terry Cook Davis of Maryville, TN; Karen (Steve) Gramann of Jefferson City, TN; Crystal (Joseph) Tuft of Alcoa, TN; sister-in-law, Kartika (David) Gibson of Charleston, SC; aunt, Dalene Goins of Monteagle, TN; devoted nephews Christopher Badgett and Bryson Motley; special cousin Rickey Goins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and numerous special friends.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Rest Haven Baptist Church, Alcoa. Interment to follow at Hill Top Cemetery, Louisville. The body may be viewed on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Foothills Funeral Home, Maryville. Final arrangements entrusted to Foothills Funeral Home. www.foothillsfh.com
