Charles E. Johnson

Charles Edward “Birdie” Johnson was born December 18, 1952 in Greenville, SC. He later moved and grew up in Hendersonville, N.C. Charles took his eternal rest August 29, 2023 in Maryville, TN

Charles served in the U.S. Army before settling in Ohio for several years where he was employed before retirement.

Charles was wed twice, lastly to Willie “Cookie” Buchanan on June 27, 2015 and relocated to Maryville, TN. Charles united with St. John Missionary Baptist Church and attended until declining health prevented.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Wessie Lee Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Cookie Buchanan-Johnson; children, Christie L. Johnson, Charles E. Johnson Jr., Kimberely Waters, Chandra Waters, and Tamara Waters; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; aunt, Dorothy Johnson of Ohio, uncle, Shelly Johnson of California, cousin/sisters, Carolyn D. Watkins, Yvonne (James)Smith, and Deborah “Spanky” Watkins; special childhood friend, Larry (Etta) Robinson; multiple cousins, in laws, and other associates.

Family will receive friends on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Foothills Funeral Home with memorial service to follow.
