Curtis Tate

Curtis Darnell Tate, age 67, was born on July 27, 1957 and departed this life on December 18,2024 at University of Tennessee Hospital. He was the Son of John and Joyce Tate. 

He was preceded in death by his father John R. Tate, son Marshawn Asbury, Grandmothers Marie Carr and Edith Tate, Uncle William Tate, Aunts Rena Wiley, Louise Coffin, Ruby Jones and Carolyn Holland and cousins Cheryll McBath.

Curtis graduated from Alcoa High School. He attended Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York where he played Basketball. He loved basketball and played the sport as long as his health allowed. He played with and coached his three sons. Curtis loved kids and delighted in coaching for “Stars of Tomorrow,” the Jim Riddick Free Basketball Camp with his devoted friend Loren Riddick.

Curtis had a sweet, loving, and caring spirit. He loved his family dearly. His pride and joy were his sons Marshawn, Curtis II, and Colby, and grandsons Daunte, Carter, Curtis III, and Bryson. They were the light of his life and were able to put a smile on his face regardless of how he felt. 

He worked for Cohen Express, Secaucus, New Jersey, Alcoa Aluminum Company and Norfolk Southern. He loved each job and made lifelong friends at each company,

He leaves a devoted family to cherish his loving memories: His devoted wife, Caroline; Mother, Joyce Tate; Sons, Curtis (Leslie) Tate, Maryville, TN and Colby Tate, Alcoa, TN; Grandsons, Daunte’ Asbury, Carter Carringer, Curtis Tate III and Bryson Wilson; Brother Rudolph (Tanya) Tate Alcoa, TN; Devoted Mother in Law Dorothy Mynatt, Aunt and Uncle Jane and Richard Cooper, Aunt Kathline Tate; and a host of devoted and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Family will receive friends on Monday December 23, 2024 at St. Paul AME Zion Church, Maryville from 12:15 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow. Interment will be at Sherwood Gardens following the service. www.foothillsfh.com
