Daisy Mae Gordon Mcghee

Mrs. Daisy Mae Gordon McGhee was born October 23, 1923 in Campbell, Alabama to Mrs. Mattie Grayson Davis and Robert Gordon. She was the second of nine siblings. Mrs. McGhee was reared by her grandparents, Robert and Mary Gordon. She attended school in Campbell, Alabama and Selma Alabama. She eventually moved to Mobile, Alabama for several years. Later, she moved to Madisonville, Tennessee where she met and married Mr. John Allen McGhee. She and Mr. McGhee married on November 20, 1950, relocated to Alcoa, Tennessee. In Alcoa she became a faithful member of Rest Haven Missionary Baptist Church and attended regularly until her illness. She served as an usher.

Mrs. McGhee was a loving person who enjoyed people. Always positive and never complained. She had a “green thumb” and really enjoyed working in her yard with various plants, flowers, trees and shrubberies. Her favorite pastime, interior decorating and working in her yard and garden.

She was employed at the University of Tennessee for 30 years.

Daisy Mae McGhee gained her wings on May 14, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband John Allen McGhee; parents, grandparents and sisters, Mary L. Bailey and Cecil Rene’ Gill; niece, Doris Gill Davis and nephew John D. Gill.

Mrs. McGhee leaves to cherish beautiful memories of a life well lived; nieces, Vera A. Gill-Harvey, Johnnie (Thomas) Morgan, Joyce (Willie) Howard, Karen (Christopher) Thompson; nephews, Cal Gill Sr., and Mark Anthony Gill.

Loving caretakers, friends and confidants, Jimmie and Shari McRae, Natalie Woods, DiAvion Jackson, Willie Mae Hannumand Addie Tate.

Family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. on May 19, 2023 at Rest Haven Missionary Baptist Church, Alcoa with funeral service to follow. Entombment will follow service at Sherwood Gardens, Alcoa. The body may be viewed after noon on Thursday at Foothills Funeral Home, Maryville.
