Edward William Garner, Jr. , age 66 passed away at his residence on Friday, March 26, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward William Garner, Sr. and Thelma Porter Garner, older sister Katherine Hale along with both maternal and paternal grandparents.
Edward was born in Blount County, Tennessee. He was the first born of his parents union. He was also known as “JJ” a nickname he earned from being compared to the character on the sitcom, “Good Times” from the late ‘70’s.
JJ, as most people, except his older sister Valorie and his mother called him, loved to joke and laugh. He would often reminisce about the past, telling stories that he laughingly told for hours.
As a young boy, Edward attended Sunday School and church at St. Paul AME Zion Church with his grandfather, Claborn Porter. He believed in Jesus Christ and would speak of praying to the Lord.
He will be sorely missed by those who loved him. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory, two children who he dearly loved. Garner, Maryville, TN, Vickie Garner McKelvey, Ralph K. Garner both of Maryville, Tn, Jeffrey Wallace (Kizzy), Knoxville, Tn, devoted niece Yolanda Garner, Knoxville, TN. devoted aunt, Mary Maury and uncle, Joe Fine both of Cleveland, OH, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Maple Grove Cemetery, 724 N. Dunlap St, Maryville, TN.
