Elizabeth Ann “Rita” Robin, born August 21, 1928 in Athens, TN passed away peacefully at home Sunday
July 14, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents Dora Douglas & Dean Scruggs Douglas Casey,
spouse Sylvanus Robin, brother Dora Jr., Bennie and Edward; sister Ellen Douglas and niece Alma “Pop”
George.
Rita is survived by devoted great nieces Karla George Davis, Alcoa; Kim (James) Marable, Dickson, TN;
great nephews, Michael Carlton of Fayetteville, NC, Kelvin George of Queens, NY, Mario (Sheila) George
of Alcoa, TN. A special cousin, Anita Gresham, Cincinnati, OH. A host of cousins and great, great nieces
and nephews, (one in particular), Aundrae (Kendrae) George of Knoxville, TN.
Rita moved to Alcoa as a young girl when her father gained employment with Alcoa Aluminum
Company. She was a graduate of Charles M. Hall High School. Shortly after graduation she moved to
New York and made her home there for nearly 60 years. Rita worked in Social Services with the city of
New York until she retired. Rita was very active with the senior citizens organization in Brooklyn. She
really enjoyed their activities.
Rita loved her family very much and expressed her love in many ways. She was a loving caretaker to
several members of her family during most of her adult life; to both parents, a brother, her spouse and
her sister, all to their deaths. She was a very independent woman, strong willed, outspoken, funny and
feisty. The staff at Fairpark affectionately called her a “little spit fire.”
Karla and family would like to extend special thank-yous to her caretaker, great-great niece, Serita Pye,
Doris McNear, Deretha Hill, Donita Simmons and Melinda Payne. Without you ladies I couldn’t have
done it. Also, to the staff at Fairpark (Concordia) Nursing Facility.
Graveside service will be held at Sherwood Gardens, Thursday July 18, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.
