EUGENE PORTER MIZE was born on March 21 , 1933 in Tazewell , TN . He was the fourth of seven children born to Roy and Erma (Brooks ) Mize . He departed this life on July 12 , 2021 at U T Hospital. Eugene was a 1950 graduate of Austin High School. He s erved in the United States Army and Korean War. While in the army , he was trained in Intelligence Communication and served as a stevedore, managing ship operations. Eugene continued his education at Pacific Northwestern University where he received his Bachelors of Arts and Science degree in 1960.
Eug ene retired from Rohm and Haas Inc . as a production foreman.
He held membership s in the Optimist Club and the Orchid Hills Neighborhood Association to which he served as president and was an avid and dedicated member to the community until his death . Eugene was a gifted and talented artist, rendering numerous beautiful watercolor paintings and fine art pieces. He had an amazing eye for photography , mounting and cataloging photographs of travel s and family outings on the walls of his home and loved to share photographs with family and friends. Eugene had so many creative talents and hobbies. He was a specialty card designer, a collector of many things to include: model cars , knives and vintage records. He took his hobbies of bowling , gardening and fishing very seriously.
Preceded in de ath by parents, Roy and Erma (Br ooks) Mize; devoted wife of 46 years , Julia Parkey Payne Mize; brothers, Clyde, James, Raymond, and Charles Mize; sisters, Lula Mize Isom and Shirley Ann Mize Cotner.
He le aves to cherish his mem ory , devoted dau ghter , Sabrin a N. P ayne-Bland and son-in-law, Frederick D. Bland (Alpharetta, GA) ; loving granddaughter , Ashl ey B. Payne-Bland (Charlotte, NC); Special companion, Geraldine C. Jones (Harriman, TN ; sister-in-law, Frances Mize; n umerous cousins, nieces , nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends to include the Jones/ Pankey Family and the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Family.
Family will receive friends from 12:30-1 p.m. Tuesday July 20, 2021, at Foothills Funeral Home Chapel, 910 E. Lincoln Road Maryville, TN with funeral to follow. Rev. Jesse Williams officiating.
