John Harris

March 1, 1951 — January 5, 2022

John Harris, age 70, passed away on January 5th, 2022.  John was born on March 1st, 1951, in Meridian, MS to Francis and Lola Harris.  He was a member of the 1969 graduating class of TJ Harris High School in Meridian.  After graduating, John entered the Navy where he served for 4 years.  He later attended the University of Tennessee where he was on the track team. He was a faithful member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the deacon board while also singing in numerous choirs including the Men of Faith.  With a heavy passion for sports John spent countless hours volunteering his time coaching youth league sports while being a die-hard Alcoa Tornado, Tennessee Vol, and Dallas Cowboy.

John was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Lola Harris; father and mother- in law, Lloyd and Louise Coffin; brother-in-law, Fernando Coffin.

John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Eugenia Harris; son Johnathan (Hayley); daughter Kara; sisters-in-law, Karen Coffin and Jennifer Coffin; brother-in-law, Reggie Coffin (Rebecca); grandsons Carson and Andre; close friends Herchell White, Richard Cooper, Frank Wilson, Kenny Black, Milton Hodges, Sharon Hannum, Barry McRae, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church, Alcoa on Thursday, January 13, 2022, with funeral service to follow. Interment will be at Sherwood Gardens. The body may be viewed on Wednesday noon-6:00 p.m. Final arrangements entrusted to Foothills Funeral Home. Mask and social distancing required.
