Marshawn Curtis Asbury, age 49, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024, at his home. Born on July 31, 1975, Marshawn was a devoted father to his two sons, Daunte and Bryson. He was a graduate of Alcoa High School class of 1994 where he played basketball and later coached several Alcoa youth basketball and football teams. For many years, Marshawn was a valued employee at the Holiday Inn Express in Alcoa, TN. He was a passionate supporter of the Alcoa Tornadoes, North Carolina Tar Heels, Michigan Wolverines, and the New York Giants.

Marshawn is proceeded in death by his Great-grandmothers Edith Tate and Marie Carr; Grandparents Raymond and Beulah Mae Asbury; John Rudolph Tate; Great-Aunts Ruby Hill andCarolyn “La-La” Holland, Aunt Mary Brabson; Great-Uncle Billy Tate, Uncles Donnell, Larry, and Nathaniel Asbury; and Cousin Cheryll McBath.

Marshawn is survived by his devoted and beloved parents, Mother Donna Denise Asbury; Father Curtis (Caroline)Tate; Loving Grandmother’s Joyce Tate and Dorothy Mynatt; Sons Daunte Marshawn Asbury and Bryson Wilson-Asbury; Sister Danitri (Richeon) Asbury; Brothers Curtis (Leslie)Tate II and Colby Tate; Nephews Landon Ford, Richeon Belle Jr., Carter Carringer, Curtis Tate III, and Garren Extine; Nieces Olivia Extine and Richiya Belle; Aunts Lillian Hudson, Kay Tate, Juanita Asbury, Jane (Richard) Cooper, Shirley (Larry) Asbury and Kay Asbury; Uncles Clark James, Chester Brabson, and Rudolph “Rudy”(Tonya) Tate; special Cousins Latisha Cross, Roderick Cross, Maurice Asbury, Serena (Michael) Vassell of Jacksonville, FL, Kristin (Diaz) Edwards of Chattanooga, TN, and Rudy and Tanique Tate of Brooklyn, NY; cherished friends Misty Ford, Karen Ford, and Barron Wimbley and numerous devoted family members, and friends whose lives he touched.

Marshawn was an enthusiastic mentor and coach, known for his ability to connect with others through his love for sports. He was a faithful volunteer for the Free Stars of Tomorrow Basketball Camp for its 20-year run. He played basketball with the Bel Air Bombers alongside his dad Curtis Tate and friend Loren Riddick. His dedication and enthusiasm for these teams inspired many.

Marshawn will be remembered with love and gratitude for the joy he brought to so many lives. His contagious smile, personality, kindness, and spirit will be truly missed by his family and the community, and he will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Family will receive friends on Friday August 16, 2024 from 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Rest Haven Missionary Baptist Church, Alcoa with funeral to follow. www.foothillsfh.com
