Shirley Fernell Barton, passed away May 29, 2016 at Blount Memorial Hospital.  She was born to the proud parents James and Lila Henry on August 2, 1940 in Rockford, Tennessee. Shirley attended Charles M. Hall High School in Alcoa, Tennessee.  Shirley became a wife and mother at a young age and devoted all of her life to providing tender love and care to her two sons Mike and Trent and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Shirley had love for cooking and enjoyed surrounding herself with family and friends.  She was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, in Rockford, Tennessee where she was an active member of Mildred P. Wallace Missionary Society until her health no longer permitted.  While a resident at Broadway Towers, she was with the Red Hat Society.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents James and Lila Henry; sister, Sarah Henry Wilson; brothers, Willie “Bulldog” Henry, Carl Henry, Joseph “Spudgee” Henry.

She leaves to cherish her memories; Sons Michael Barton, Trent Barton (Donknesha Alford); granddaughters Keonda (David) Hannum of Maryville, Sacola, Tyrisa, Trenkeeva, Lila, all of Knoxville; grandson, Trent Jr. of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Chyna, Amiya, kedaja, Mia, Chntiya, Rhyon, Jaxon Jameson, Tren’Azia; great-great-granddaughter, Italy Kellogg; Sister, Thelma Jones of Rockford; Brothers, James (Shirley) Henry of Alcoa, and Robert (Carroll) Henry of Rockford; sisters-in-law Pauline Henry of San Diego, CA and Stella Mae Henry of Maryville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service was held Saturday June 4, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Mt. Pleasant A.M.E Zion Church, 3664 Grade Rd., Rockford, with Rev. L. Samuel Brown, officiating. www.foothillsfh.com
