Shirley Gaines

Shirley Ann DeHart Gaines was born on September 4, 1936 to loving parents, James and Odetha DeHart in Bryson City, NC. She passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 9, 2023 in Alcoa, TN. Shirley accepted Christ and joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She devoted her life to family and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Gaines, parents James and Odetha DeHart, son Clarence Dale Gaines, brothers; James (Bill), Earl and Wayne DeHart, sisters; Betty DeHart Johnson and Dorothy DeHart Walker.

She leaves to mourn her passing: daughter, Cheryl (Willie) Gaines-Nesmith, grand-daughters; LaToya (Derrick) Elder of Knoxville and Deztane Nesmith of Alcoa, great grand-sons Derrick Jr. and Maurice Elder of Knoxville, sisters; Odetha DeHart Whitted of Alcoa, and Peggy (Jack) Young of Alcoa and brother Paul (Florence) DeHart of Orrville, OH, sister-in-law Minnette Criner of Detroit, MI and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at UT Home Health and UT Hospice.

Family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday January 21, 2023 at Foothills Funeral Home with funeral to follow. Interment will follow service at Sherwood Gardens. www.foothillsfh.com
